8/1 Our 2007-2008 Speed, Agility, & Quickness training at Victory Athletix is set to begin on Monday July 9. We already have groups going at 6:30 (99-96), 7:30 (95-93), and 8:30 (92-88). There is room in the sessions - and we have room to start more sessions. Here are the [individual] and [team] registration forms. Here is [team training information]. This type of training is much needed and an excellent value. It is being run by a highly qualified individual who is one of the top strength & conditioning coaches in the area [here is Brian Remington's bio]. For more Victory program information [click here], call the office at 633-8568, or [email us].
8/17 D1 Defense Camp & "Earning a Division 1 Scholarship" Talk are huge success! Over 50 players in the camp were introduced to nearly a hundred concepts during their ice, video, and dryland sessions. On Thursday 8/16 we held a community wide seminar where Bob Prier and Brian Remington shared key information about getting to the college level. Nearly 30 people got the inside information they sought.
8/5 Spots in the D1 Defense Camp for players 1994 and younger are almost gone. Please call 633-8568 before sending in your registration to confirm availability. There are very few spots available for the 1993-1988 group as well. FILLED - No spots left.
8/5 We will be holding a seminar Thursday August 16 at 8:00 pm at the North Amherst Recreation Center (Victory Athletix) for those interested learning "What it takes to earn a college scholarship." It will feature Bob Prier from St. Lawrence hockey and Brian Remington from UB Sports Performance. FILLED - Call Thursday 8/16 to check on possible cancellations.
6/25 What a finish! Our 9th season has been completed. It was bigger & better than ever. We were pleased to be able to give our teams an extra session (or two) along with great learning & friendship experiences. Once again, we saw tremendous improvement. Within 8-12 weeks we were beating teams that thumped us early in the Spring. And, some of the players at the bottom of the ladder in April are near the top now. We would like to thank and commend each player and their family for their support. We look forward to seeing you around the rinks over the summer and next season. FYI, to keep you up to date with the WNY hockey scene we intend to restart the Prospects monthly newsletter in July.
6/25: As we have done every year, we will be having a coaches meeting in a few weeks. Please share any compliments or improvements with your coach or with me. The main reason the Prospects has been so successful at helping kids become better players and citizens is that we have been willing to consider lots of good ideas from lots of great people like you.
6/17: It is always sort of sad when the Prospects draws to an end. On Saturday a few 95s who cannot make their last session on Monday stopped in with their parents to say thank you and good-bye until next year. You are welcome and thank you guys (and parents), it was a blast to work with & teach such a good bunch of kids. We look forward to seeing you around the rinks. [2007 wrap up coming soon].
6/17: Regular schedule this week Mon Jun 18 - Thu Jun 21 (team clinics). For many teams this is your last session. It's been another great year. Thank you for all of your positive feedback. Please check your schedule for the last 7 days. [2007 Schedule].
6/17: Great job by our 92s (Coaches Carraire & Paulin) and 94s (Coach Shorthouse) playing in a high level tournament in Rochester this weekend. They competed hard and were in every game against the cream of the crop from the Eastern US and Canada. Awesome job guys, your dedication, skill, and hard work were really apparent.
6/12: After Prospects we will be running some weekly high tempo ice on Monday and Wednesday nights to keep the kids tuned up. It starts July 9 and runs for six sessions until mid August. It is very reasonable [sign up form here]. This Fall we will also be doing our after school development ice on Mon/Wed/Fri in September and October [more to follow].
6/12: Bob Prier from St. Lawrence University will be our guest instructor this Saturday (all) & Sunday (for the groups he didn't do last time).
6/12: Good luck to our 92s (Coaches Carraire & Paulin) and 94s (Coach Shorthouse) playing in a high level tournament in Rochester this weekend.
6/10: Regular schedule this week Mon Jun 11 - Thu Jun 14 (3v3, 4v4) [2007 Schedule].
6/10: Congratulations to our 99s who made it to the Final 4 (out of 20) at the Ronald McDonald Tournament. Our 97s advanced to Sunday, also. Our 94s just missed the Champion bracket (unfortunately, no consolation bracket at the 94 level). We also saw a great job by the 96s, who battled through some adversity and tough teams from Calgary before winning their last game. These guys should be proud of themselves. Excellent competition and gutsy efforts made this another worthwhile weekend for all of our teams.
6/7: If you find yourself dreaming about a summer vacation during these hectic last few weeks of school, you may want to look into renting these cottages on the St. Lawrence that Bob Prier's family owns. Looks like a really neat spot for a family gathering.
6/4: Congratulations to the Girls U-17 team who made it to the semifinals and the Girls U-14 who were the runnner-ups at the highly competitive Can Lan Tournament this past weekend. Great job coaches and players, we are very proud of you!
5/21: Another great weekend of instruction with Bob Prier. It was very gratifying to hear him say how easy the Buffalo Prospects players are to teach. He loves their attitudes and discipline. He also mentioned how fortunate we are to have so many good and caring coaches involved. Bob will be back the weekend of June 16/17. That weekend he will do all the Saturday groups and the groups he didn't see this past Sunday. Bob will also be the lead instructor for the August D1 Defense Camp [application & information]. We have long recognized the need for specific training for defensemen. This will also benefit forwards, all of whom need to learn how to play both sides of the puck. We have kept the price very reasonable to benefit as many players as possible. Enrollment will be limited, so sign up soon.

5/21: Regular schedule this week May 21 - May 24 (team clinics) [2007 Schedule]. No ice next Saturday or Sunday. Have a good Memorial Day weekend with family & friends.
5/16: Special Clinic (Passing & Scoring) this weekend. St. Lawrence Assistant Coach Bob Prier doing 2/3 of the groups. He will do 2/3 again on 6/16 weekend.
5/14: Buffalo Prospects is honored to partner with New Era again in 2007. For the second year in a row we will be providing each player with an authentic New Era Prospects hat. New Era is a great local success story and we encourage you to support them. Click on their logo above for more information and be sure to visit their museum and new specialty store downtown at 160 Delaware Avenue. It's a great place to take your out of town visitors. Caps are being distributed at this week's 3v3 & 4v4 games. Thank you New Era!
5/14: Revised Schedule posted with bonus ice times inserted [2007 Schedule]
5/13: Regular schedule this week May 14 - May 17 (3v3, 4v4) [2007 Schedule]
5/13: Congratulations to all our teams that competed hard over the weekend. Numerous teams made crossovers and lot's of good reports.
4/20: Canisius College college prep presentation [NCAA Presentation]
4/26: Revised schedule May 5/6 - teams skate either May 5/6 (click here) or June 23/24
4/23: Regular schedule for April 28/29 (guest instructor - power skating) [2007 Schedule]
4/20: I asked Canisius College coach Dave Smith if he would be willing to share the presentation that he made to local high school players at last weekend's Bowman Cup. I told him that we were busy on the ice working with the kids to get them ready for college one day. He understood and graciously agreed to send along a copy. I would strongly recommend that our 92s - 94s print off a copy for your reference [NCAA Presentation]
4/16: Off Ice Seminars are being planned to maximize impact and attendance.
4/16: Congratulations to the numerous former Prospects who played in the Bowman Cup yesterday (16 of 21 on the Junior team and 12 of 21 on the Senior team. Also, hats off to Larry Quinn and Mike Gilbert of the Sabres for insuring the continuity of the event.
